South Africa's pace bowlers produced a devastating bowling spell to help reduce Pakistan to 40-7 in the first Test match in Johannesburg.
Pakistan had resumed day two on 6-0 after bowling South Africa out for 253 but they were soon on the back foot as Dale Steyn struck to dismiss Mohammad Hafeez for six.
Nasir Jamshed and Younis Khan also fell victim to the pace of Steyn to leave Pakistan on 12-3.
Pakistan steadied the ship by putting on 24 runs for their fourth wicket but they were soon back on the defensive as Jacques Kallis picked up two dismissals in two overs.
The tourists were facing embarrassment as two more wickets fell as Vernon Philander struck twice in three balls to leave Pakistan on 40-7 at lunch.
