South Africa have continued their domination over India by claiming four more wickets to restrict their opponents to 168-7 on day one of the first Test in Mohali.
The hosts lost three quick wickets, including captain Virat Kohli, who was dismissed for just one run, in the morning session.
After lunch, the fourth-wicket stand between Ajinkya Rahane and Murali Vijay came to an end as the former was caught out for 15 by Hashim Amla off the bowling of Dean Elgar.
The New Zealand duo combined again two overs later to dismiss Wriddhiman Saha for a duck, and Vijay, who reached his 12th Test fifty, was later dismissed lbw for 75 off Simon Harmer.
Elgar nabbed his fourth wicket of the day by taking out Amit Mishra (6), who was caught by Dale Steyn.
Ravindra Jadeja (26*) and Ravichandran Ashwin (4*) will return for the last session of the day.
