Strong winds have forced European Games organisers to consider alternative options ahead of the BMX events in Baku this weekend.
Conditions at the Caspian Sea coastal venue are expected to remain severe over the next few days, and with a maximum wind speed of 35kmh allowed for BMX super cross competitions, there is concern about the safety of riders.
"The forecast weather conditions for Saturday and Sunday look dangerous for BMX," revealed technical delegate Jolanda Polkamp. "[The 35kmh limit is] a guideline. It depends on the wind direction, too. Headwinds or tailwinds are less dangerous, but crosswinds may blow riders off their bikes."
The BMX competition is spread over three days, with time trials scheduled for Friday, motos on Saturday and semi-finals and finals on Sunday, but all of the races could be held on one day if organisers are forced to change the schedule.
