Reigning Tour of Britain champion Sir Bradley Wiggins has revealed that he is close to agreeing a new contract with Team Sky.

The 34-year-old's current deal expires at the end of the season and he had been linked with a move away from the British squad after being left out of their lineup for this summer's Tour de France.

However, Wiggins is keen to ride the team pursuit at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and believes that Team Sky will allow him to split his time between the track and road.

"We are trying to structure how it will work. I never really wanted to leave this team in all honesty. I would never feel really comfortable anywhere else, so I would always endeavour to stay here," Wiggins told Sky Sports News.

"There was a lot of talk in the summer and everything else. We are just trying to iron out the detail of how it would look."

Wiggins is defending his Tour of Britain title this week, with the race beginning in Liverpool today.
