Liam Phillips wins every race on his way to clinching the UCI BMX World Championships in Auckland.

Britain's Liam Phillips has stormed to victory at the UCI BMX World Championships in Auckland.

The 24-year-old won every race en route to the final, which included three heats and last-16, quarter and semi-final contests.

In the final, he came across the line in 23.280 seconds, edging home favourite Marc Willers and Germany's Lucas Brethauer into second and third respectively.

It is the biggest win of his career, surpassing the 1999 European Championships.

British Cycling Olympic BMX coach Grant White described it as a "phenomenal" achievement that is a reward for his hard work over the past 12 months.

"It is phenomenal and he had done the work," he told Britishcycling.org.uk. "Once you have done the work, you are prepared and you can sit there with a bit of confidence.

"He had done the work to be successful and that is over a long period of time. That is not over the last few months - that is over the last couple of years. He knew he had had a great preparation over the last 12 months and he delivered.

"It is a culmination of everything. We knew he was in the best shape of his life and [he] came here and delivered. It is unbelievable, fantastic. This year he knows he is capable and he has got the package. He put it all together today."

Phillips finished eighth in the final at last summer's Olympic Games.
