Callum Skinner bemoans "disappointing" morning at Commonwealth Games

Team Scotland rider Callum Skinner admits that he is disappointed by his performance in the opening session of cycling at the Commonwealth Games.

Team Scotland cyclist Callum Skinner has admitted that he was disappointed with his performance in the morning session at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome today.

The first day of the cycling at this summer's Commonwealth Games saw Skinner qualify as the 10th fastest in the men's 200m sprint, but he missed out to New Zealand's Sam Webster in the first round before a repechage defeat to Jason Kenny of England ended his hopes in the format once and for all.

The 21-year-old will still take part in the team sprint this afternoon and the keirin at the weekend, however, and he is hoping for more success then.

"It's been pretty disappointing today. The time trial didn't really go the way I wanted it to. I think the race, tactically, went OK but I just didn't have the legs," Skinner told Sports Mole.

"It was fairly disappointing all round, but I'll try to put it behind me for the team sprint this afternoon. We've got a good team, we've got a good chance of making the final, and if we make the final then we've got every chance of winning it."

Skinner will compete alongside compatriots Jonny Biggin and Chris Pritchard in the team sprint later today.
