Gary Anderson has bowed out of the 2023 PDC World Championship at the third-round stage after losing 4-1 to Chris Dobey on Wednesday afternoon.
Although the two-time world champion has largely struggled this season, he averaged in excess of 115 in taking the opening set.
However, Dobey kept his composure to edge the second set in a decider, something which he replicated in the third and fourth to move one away from victory.
The Englishman would then average 100.8 in taking the fifth, finishing the contest with eight maximums as he eliminated the 11th seed.
Ninth seed Danny Noppert is also out of the tournament after failing to take advantage of holding a two-set lead over Alan Soutar.
From that moment, the Scot came from behind, dropping just the two legs, to defeat the UK Open champion and book a place in the last 16 for the second successive year.
In the first match of the afternoon, there was another remarkable comeback as Jose de Sousa came from three sets adrift to defeat Ryan Searle by a 4-3 scoreline.
The Portuguese missed 19 darts at double in the sets that he lost, allowing Searle to capitalise, but the former Grand Slam of Darts champion found his scoring power during the second half of the match to book his place in the fourth round, where he will now play top seed Gerwyn Price. body check tags ::
