Phil Taylor has paid tribute to the "phenomenal" Michael van Gerwen after losing to the Dutchman in Sunday's Grand Slam of Darts final in Wolverhampton.
The 16-time world champion lost 16-13 to Van Gerwen as the 26-year-old won an elusive Grand Slam title to complete his collection of PDC majors.
He told PDC.TV: "I missed too many doubles and it's my own fault, but I'm proud to have reached the final but I'm disappointed that I lost.
"I gave him chances and he took them, and fair play to him - it's set him up now for the rest of the year. He's a phenomenal darts player."
As runner-up, 55-year-old Taylor picked up £52,500 in prize money.
