Chris Mears has praised the home crowd at London 2012 after they cheered him through a difficult preliminary round in the men's 3m springboard.
The Team GB diver admitted that the first round was tougher than he expected, and described his supporters as "brilliant".
He said: "With a score like that I knew I'd be there or thereabouts but it was a really hard prelim. I've never seen a score that high to get in to the semi-finals before.
"The crowd were brilliant again and exactly how I expected them to be after the synchro. I was buzzing after the synchro to get back out in front of the crowd again and it was fantastic.
"I nailed the reverse which I'm really happy with because it hadn't been going that well in training."
Mears progressed to the semi-finals by clinching the final qualification spot with a score of 436.05, less than three points more than Malaysia's Qiang Huang.
