Great Britain's Jack Laugher suggests that his disappointing showing at London 2012 had acted as his motivation ahead of winning gold in the men's synchronised 3m springboard.

Great Britain's Jack Laugher has described winning gold in the men's synchronised 3m springboard alongside Chris Mears as his "absolute dream".

The pair produced a dominant showing to hold off the challenge of USA and China to claim first place in Rio de Janeiro, and Laugher has suggested that he was motivated by his disappointment at London 2012, where he only finished in 27th place in the 3m springboard.

The 21-year-old told BBC Sport: "I feel like I had a point to prove here - that's why I was so emotional at the end. It was a reflection of how hard we have worked since London.

"This is the big one. To do it alongside my best friend it is beyond worth it. It is my absolute dream."

Victory for Laugher and Mears follows their triumph at the European Championships in May.
