Aberdeen have booked their spot in the third qualifying round of the Europa League after recording a 1-0 victory over Latvian side Ventspils in the second leg of their second qualifying round clash on Thursday night.
The Scottish outfit recorded a 3-0 victory in the first leg last week and Adam Rooney's second-half effort in Latvia secured a comfortable progression into the next round of the European competition.
Aberdeen came close to making the breakthrough in the 32nd minute when Ryan Jack struck an effort from distance, but the ball rebounded off the crossbar and Rooney was offside when he headed home from close range.
Ventspils's best opportunity came from the penalty spot three minutes before the end of the first period, but Joe Lewis got down well to keep out the spot kick from Antons Jemelins.
Aberdeen took the lead on the night 11 minutes from time when Jonathan Hayes fed Rooney and the centre-forward finished past Maksims Uvarenko to make it 4-0 on aggregate.
Aberdeen will take on either Maribor or Levski Sofia in the next round. As it stands, those two teams are level at 0-0 following their first leg in Portugal last week.
