Former Aberdeen player Neale Cooper dies at the age of 54.

Former Aberdeen forward Neale Cooper has died at the age of 54.

The Scotsman was known for leading Sir Alex Ferguson's front line at the Dons, helping them to win the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1983.

Cooper, who was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after being found in a stairwell of flats in Aberdeen on Sunday morning, passed away with his family by his bedside on Monday.

"There are no apparent suspicious circumstances however inquiries are continuing to establish how the man came to be injured," Det Insp David Howieson stated.

After retirement, Cooper managed Ross County, Peterhead and Hartlepool United.
