AC Milan have confirmed that defender Cristian Zapata fractured his foot during last night's win over Sassuolo in the Coppa Italia.
The Colombia international played the full 90 minutes at San Siro as a 2-1 victory saw Milan reach the quarter-finals.
Zapata, 28, is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines before he overcomes the problem.
"AC Milan communicates that in the final minutes of Milan-Sassuolo, Cristian Zapata, following a challenge with another player, suffered a bone fracture at the base of the second metatarsal in his right foot," read an official statement from the club.
Zapata has made 12 appearances for the Rossoneri so far this season.
