AC Milan are looking to leave the San Siro and build a new 48,000-capacity stadium in time for the 2018-19 season, reports claim.

AC Milan appear to be looking to leave the San Siro after proposals suggested that the Italian club will build their own 48,000-capacity stadium.

Milan are currently sharing the San Siro with rivals Inter Milan and have been using the stadium together since 1947.

The Rossoneri are teaming up with the designers of Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena and Beijing's Bird Nest stadium to create Milan's new home, according to BBC Sport.

As of last season, Milan could only fill half of the San Siro on average, with rivals Inter averaging slightly better numbers.

If the plans were to go ahead, the stadium would reportedly be open by the 2018-19 season.
