Antonio Cassano has been fined €15,000 (£11,700) by UEFA for discriminatory comments that he made while on international duty with Italy at Euro 2012.
The AC Milan striker claimed that he hoped that there were no homosexuals in the Azzurri squad during the tournament.
Despite insisting that his comments were misinterpreted, European football's governing body have punished the 30-year-old.
"The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has fined Italy's Antonio Cassano €15,000 for a discriminatory press statement during UEFA EURO 2012," read a statement on UEFA's official website.
Cassano will have three days to lodge an appeal over the decision following its written dispatch.
