AC Milan are reportedly freezing contract talks with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma after he was confronted by angry fans at the club's training ground.

AC Milan have reportedly put contract talks with goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on hold after a group of fans confronted the Italian at the club's training ground.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at the Giuseppe Meazza in June, but technical director Paolo Maldini has claimed that there will be no progress on contract renewals until the season is completed on May 23.

Milan have suffered an indifferent season as they currently sit fourth in Serie A and were knocked out of the Europa League by Manchester United in the round of 16, however if the Italian giants finish in the top four it will be their best league finish since 2013.

Speaking to ANSA, Maldini responded to the fans who confronted his goalkeeper, saying: "It's important to firmly reiterate that no one outside of AC Milan can decide who plays and who renews their contract. Certain choices are up to the coach, regarding the football pitch, and up to the club, regarding contractual matters.

"From this moment every single renewal negotiation is frozen until the end of the season, to allow the team to focus solely on the league. In the meantime, we will continue to protect our players as we have always done."

Donnarumma came through the ranks at AC Milan and has gone on to make 247 first-team appearances for the club. body check tags ::
