Groningen have recorded a shock Eredivisie win at home to Ajax after goals from Eric Botteghin and Michael de Leeuw secured a them a 2-0 victory.
The Amsterdam outfit were quick out of the blocks as Lasse Schone dribbled forward in the tenth minute, but his shot was off target.
Ajax were the dominant side for much of the first half, but efforts by Davy Klaassen, Ricardo Van Rhijn and Nick Viergever all failed to trouble Sergio Padt.
At the start of the second half, Groningen unexpectedly broke the deadlock as Botteghin latched onto a pinpoint cross from the left flank and sent a header soaring past Jasper Cillessen.
Frank de Boer's side continued to press forward, with Anwar El Ghaz firing just wide in the 64th minute and Nicolai Boilesen also missing ten minutes later.
Despite Ajax turning the screws in the last ten minutes in a desperate bid to equalise, Groningen countered and put the game to bed thanks to De Leeuw's header with just three minutes left on the clock.
