Aldershot Town midfielder Mark Molesley has claimed that his side deserved the win after they beat Portsmouth 1-0 to move into the second round of the FA Cup on Wednesday.
Molesley struck the winning goal late on for the Conference side, and he said that they were worth the victory after knocking out the 2008 winners in their replay.
He told BT Sport: "The first half we were a little overawed and the second half we came at them. I think we deserved it in the end. We've had an indifferent start to the season but we've shown that we're a force.
"You can see what it means to everyone connected with the club. The FA Cup is the lifeblood of so many clubs and the club's been through the mill the last few years.
"It was a gritty performance and it wasn't the prettiest to watch, but it was a blood and thunder cup tie. We're glad to see it over the line. To finish it off in front of our own fans is a great feeling."
Aldershot will play Rochdale at home in the next round.
