Queens Park Rangers have reportedly activated the release clause in Christopher Samba's contract with Anzhi Makhachkala.
Manager Harry Redknapp recently went on the record to reveal that he was keen to add a centre-back to his squad, with both Ryan Nelsen and Anton Ferdinand having departed this month.
The veteran boss confirmed his interest in former Blackburn Rovers defender Samba yesterday, as well as Stoke City's Peter Crouch.
He has now firmed up that interest by lodging a bid that has triggered the 28-year-old's release clause that was inserted into his contract when he joined his Russian employers last February.
Samba is now expected to hold talks with officials from QPR over a move to Loftus Road.
