Sergio Romero says that he was confident in his own abilities as he helped Argentina to win their World Cup semi-final against the Netherlands following a penalty shootout.

Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero has expressed his "immense happiness" after his country booked their place in the World Cup final following a penalty-shootout victory against the Netherlands.

Following 120 minutes of action the two teams could not be separated in their semi-final clash, and spot kicks were needed to decide the outcome.

In the shootout, Romero saved penalties from Ron Vlaar and Wesley Sneijder to help the South Americans to a 4-2 win and set up a final clash against Germany.

"Enjoy the moment, we will enjoy it and tomorrow we will start working for the final," BBC Sport quotes Romero as saying.

"I feel immense happiness, I'm really happy with everything. Penalties are a question of luck, that is the reality.

"I had confidence in myself and, fortunately, everything turned out well."

Two-time winners Argentina will be appearing in their fifth final this weekend.
