Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta reportedly faces at least two weeks on the sidelines after picking up an injury during his side's goalless draw with Besiktas.
The Spaniard sprained his ankle during the Champions League clash and the full extent of the damage is yet to be revealed, according to The Mirror.
The move could force Gunners boss Arsene Wenger back into the transfer market to bolster his midfield, with Real Madrid star Sami Khedira and Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho both linked with the club.
Wenger will also be without the services of fellow midfielder Aaron Ramsey for the return leg against Besiktas, as the Welshman was sent off in Turkey.
