Jack Wilshere has praised Arsenal for "getting the job done" against AC Milan in the Europa League and admitted that his side "needed" victory.
The Gunners led 2-0 from the first leg of the last-16 tie but fell behind in the return game at the Emirates Stadium through Hakan Calhanoglu, who struck from range on 35 minutes.
However, a Danny Welbeck brace either side of Granit Xhaka's second-half strike proved enough to nullify Milan's opener as Arsene Wenger's men secured a 3-1 win on the night and 5-1 win on aggregate.
"We needed it," Wilshere told BT Sport. "We set the level last week in Milan. It was about getting the job done tonight and being professional.
"We didn't start well but it woke us up. They got a good goal early on and made us work for it. We are happy to be through to the next round and we will see who we get.
"When we looked at the draw before, AC Milan was probably not one of the teams we fancied but we showed we can play against the top teams in Europe."
The draw for the last eight of the competition takes place at 12pm on Friday.
