How Liverpool could line up against Arsenal

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Liverpool could line up for Sunday's FA Cup third-round clash with Arsenal.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will temporarily begin life without Mohamed Salah when the Reds head to the Emirates to face Arsenal in Sunday's FA Cup third-round affair.

The Egypt international is one of two Liverpool players to have been called up for their respective continental tournaments this month and will be away for a number of weeks at the Africa Cup of Nations.

In addition, midfielder Wataru Endo is currently with the Japan squad preparing for the imminent Asian Cup, and Klopp's engine room predicament is further complicated by Dominik Szoboszlai's hamstring injury, which he sustained against Newcastle United on New Year's Day.

Klopp has confirmed that Szoboszlai has no chance of featuring in North London, while Ben Doak (knee), Kostas Tsimikas (collarbone), Thiago Alcantara (hip), Stefan Bajcetic (calf), Andrew Robertson (shoulder) or Joel Matip (ACL) are definitely out too.

Klopp is far from consistent when it comes to his goalkeeping selection for FA Cup matches, but given the calibre of opposition, Alisson Becker will most likely be given the nod over Caoimhin Kelleher.

Alisson ought to form an untouched rearguard with Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and emergency left-back Joe Gomez, although the recalled Rhys Williams and Owen Beck are alternative options.

Endo's absence will likely guarantee a return to number six duties for Alexis Mac Allister, while Ryan Gravenberch should be deployed in place of the stricken Szoboszlai; Curtis Jones's spot is surely safe.

While Salah is an irreplaceable figure in the Liverpool attack, Diogo Jota should do his best to fill the void, potentially alongside Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz after Darwin Nunez's wasteful display against Newcastle.

Liverpool possible starting lineup: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Gomez; Jones, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Jota, Gakpo, Diaz
