Arsenal looking to avoid worst-ever run against Liverpool

Arsenal will be bidding to avoid their worst-ever run against Liverpool when they lock horns with Jurgen Klopp's side in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners have lost their last four league games against the Reds, including a 2-0 defeat in the corresponding clash at the Emirates Stadium last season.

The North London club have never lost five league games in a row against the Merseyside giants, so they will be looking to avoid an unwanted record this weekend.

Arsenal have only been victorious in one of their last 14 league fixtures with Liverpool, suffering nine defeats in the process, with the Reds dominating this clash in recent years.

The Gunners lead the overall head-to-head record, though, winning 94 times to Liverpool's 81, while there have also been 62 draws between the two sides throughout history.

Arsenal will enter this match off the back of a 3-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night, which made it four straight wins in all competitions.

The Gunners were 3-1 winners over Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby last weekend, meanwhile, and they are currently top of the table on 21 points, one point ahead of second-placed Manchester City.

Arsenal are 11 points clear of ninth-placed Liverpool, although the Reds do have a game in hand over the Gunners, having seen their recent clash with Chelsea postponed following the Queen's death.

The London club's last league victory over Liverpool came at the Emirates Stadium in July 2020, with Alexandre Lacazette and Reiss Nelson on the scoresheet in London.

Arsenal face another clash with Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League next week before travelling to Elland Road on October 16 to tackle Leeds United in the Premier League.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will enter the contest off the back of a 2-0 victory over Rangers in the Champions League, but the Reds have struggled in the Premier League this term.

Klopp's side were held to a 3-3 draw by Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League last weekend, and they have only been victorious in two of their seven league games this term.

A total of 10 points has left the Merseyside club in ninth position, and they are yet to win on their travels in England's top flight this term, picking up just two points from three matches.

Liverpool have been victorious in their last two away league games against Arsenal, though, and will be bidding to make it three successive wins over Arsenal on their travels for the first time in their history. body check tags ::
