Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that he was 'surprised' by Thibaut Courtois's wild penalty during Sunday's Community Shield.
Chelsea stopper Courtois surprisingly stepped forward in the shootout after the match had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
The Belgian international sent a wild effort into the stands as Chelsea lost 4-1 on spot kicks, and Cech, who trained with Courtois at Chelsea, has admitted that he was confused by the 25-year-old's effort.
"We played together and that is not normally where he shoots. Normally he goes the top corner on the other side," Cech told reporters. "Maybe the fact that we know each other and I know the players maybe made it more difficult. I hoped that he was going to put it where I was going."
Alvaro Morata also missed in the shootout as Chelsea suffered defeat in London.
