Aaron Ramsey has suggested that he could miss the start of Arsenal's season in order to rest following Wales's Euro 2016 campaign.
The midfielder helped his nation reach the semi-finals of the major tournament in France, but did not feature in the 2-0 defeat to Portugal on Wednesday night due to suspension.
Ramsey will be given time off before returning to pre-season training on August 1, and even though the Gunners' opening Premier League match against Liverpool is not until 13 days later, he has hinted that he could be rested for the game.
After Germany's triumph in the 2014 World Cup, manager Arsene Wenger gave his players an extended break, and could do the same for Ramsey.
The midfielder told the London Evening Standard: "I know [Arsene prefers to give players a long rest]. A few years ago Germany won the World Cup and they came in just a few days before the first game of the season but they missed that.
"So he does like to give players a little break and I'll be getting the same treatment. I feel I need a few weeks off now."
Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Mesut Ozil are expected to be given the same treatment as all three are playing in the semi-final between France and Germany tonight.
