Graeme Souness compares Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Thierry Henry

Graeme Souness compares Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to club legend Thierry Henry after his latest goalscoring exploits.

Graeme Souness has compared Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to club legend Thierry Henry after his latest goalscoring exploits.

The 30-year-old Gabon striker grabbed a brace as the Gunners came from behind to defeat Everton 3-2 and maintain their unbeaten start to 2020.

The former Borussia Dortmund frontman has only got 18 months left on his deal at the Emirates Stadium and he was widely tipped to be eyeing the exit door after Arsenal's poor first half of the season.

Souness believes that he is key to Mikel Arteta's rebuilding project though, telling reporters: "He is 30, he is at the top of his game. He is a really good player. Coming here I was worried how he would deal with the English game but he has taken it all in his stride.

"You see two different goals today, one where he has got a chance of getting properly injured with a coming together of heads, but he didn't pull out in any shape. Good header, stuck it away.

"The one before that when he is set free, and very Thierry-esque where he is free. The alarm bells are ringing for a lot of strikers in that position, but when he gets free you're thinking he is gonna put this away. He didn't get excited and stroked it and passed the ball into the net.

"He is a top man. Can they hold onto him? It is imperative they do."

Aubameyang is likely to have an important role on Thursday as Arsenal look to get past Olympiacos and secure their spot in the last 16 of the Europa League. body check tags ::
