Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen believes that Lukas Podolski will prove to be a vital part of the Gunners squad this season.
The 27-year-old, who was part of Germany's failed Euro 2012 campaign, was an early acquisition in the summer transfer window, who could prove to be a replacement for Robin van Persie, who is believed to be seeking an exit from the Emirates this summer.
"I know Podolski from the national team when I have seen him play and we played against him last year when we played Koln," Vermaelen told the club's official website.
"I think he is a great player with a great left foot and a good attitude and discipline as well. I am really happy he is with the club now."
Meanwhile, reports have claimed that the North London club are intending to keep wantaway Van Persie until the January window.
