Arsene Wenger has hailed the "outstanding" Calum Chambers for his display in Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
The 19-year-old produced a mature defensive performance alongside fellow summer signing Mathieu Debuchy as the Gunners kept a clean sheet en route to Community Shield glory.
"I must say a special congratulations to our two defenders Debuchy and Chambers," he told the club's official website.
"Chambers was outstanding. He played with a maturity and intelligence that I was really impressed with."
Wenger's side coasted into a two-goal half-time lead thanks to strikes from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey, while Olivier Giroud's long-range effort in the second half capped a comfortable win for the FA Cup holders.
The North Londoners kick off their Premier League campaign on Saturday by welcoming Crystal Palace to the Emirates Stadium.
