Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits that the decision to sign Petr Cech was not straightforward due to the talent he already had in the keeping position.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has disclosed that it was a tough decision to sign Petr Cech because of the talent he already had at the keeping position.

The Gunners signed the 33-year-old in a £10m deal from Chelsea to bolster their rearguard for the new campaign.

Wenger has admitted that it was not easy for him to make the move to sign Cech because of the displays of David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny, but feels that his experience will benefit the club greatly next season.

"It was a very, very tough decision because I have two great goalkeepers. I think Cech can make them better as well," Wenger told the club's official website.

"He has huge experience and the fact that he has won more big trophies can strengthen the belief of the team. That can help them to develop and that's what I expect from him.

"You always want to improve the experience level of your squad and I thought he could help us gain something on that front. I still think he has a huge hunger. When I saw him with Chelsea last year he was always convincing and I'm happy that we could do it. His kind of knowledge and experience can help us."

Cech won four Premier League titles and the Champions League in his 11 years at Chelsea.
