How Arsenal could line up against Liverpool

Sports Mole looks at how Arsenal could line up for Monday night's Premier League trip to face Liverpool at Anfield.

Arsenal make the first of two trips to Anfield in the space of four days on Monday night when they visit champions Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Gunners have made an encouraging start to the new season with four wins from four across all competitions so far, including back-to-back London derby wins in the league.

Monday's contest is their first major test of the campaign, although they go into the match having already got the better of Liverpool twice in the past two months.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Mikel Arteta could set his side up for the contest.

Out: Shkodran Mustafi (hamstring), Gabriel Martinelli (knee), Calum Chambers (knee), Emile Smith Rowe (shoulder), Pablo Mari (ankle)
Doubtful: Kieran Tierney (groin), Sokratis Papastathopoulos (calf), Cedric Soares (calf)

Arsenal still have a long injury list, particularly in defence where Shkodran Mustafi, Calum Chambers and Pablo Mari remain sidelined while Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Cedric Soares are not expected to be ready in time for this match.

However Arteta could be boosted by the return of Kieran Tierney, who pulled out during the warm-up ahead of last weekend's victory over West Ham United due to a tight groin.

David Luiz is also now back fit and made his first start of the season in midweek, and he could well be in contention to keep his spot alongside compatriot Gabriel Magalhaes in the back three.

Any inclusion for Luiz could free up Tierney to move to left wing-back, although given Arsenal's form so far this season and Luiz's struggles against Mohamed Salah in the corresponding fixture last term, Arteta could look to keep things as they are for now.

Bukayo Saka has started the last two games at left wing-back and could keep his place, although he played on the right wing in Arsenal's Community Shield victory over Liverpool while Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who was on the right in midweek, shone at left wing-back at Wembley.

Arteta also has a big decision to make over his starting centre-forward; Eddie Nketiah came off the bench to score the winner against West Ham last weekend and was on the scoresheet again in midweek, so he has given himself every chance of usurping Alexandre Lacazette up front.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will certainly be one of the star names to return to the starting lineup after sitting out when Arteta made seven changes in the EFL Cup.

Willian, Hector Bellerin, Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka are among the other players expected to come back into the side.
