Arsenal and Newcastle United are reportedly prepared to battle it out for the signing of Lille forward Jonathan David.

At a time when he has been helping Canada move towards World Cup qualification, the 22-year-old's stock has also risen in Europe.

David has scored 15 goals in Ligue 1 and the Champions League this season, a contribution which has come on the back of helping Lille win France's top flight during the last campaign.

A transfer to a bigger European club is expected latter in 2022, with The Mirror claiming that the Gunners and Magpies will be at the front of the queue.

Arsenal are no strangers to doing business with Lille having signed Gabriel Magalhaes and Nicolas Pepe in the past, while it is claimed that Newcastle have already been in touch with the player's representatives.

David still has over three years remaining on his contract, leaving Lille in a strong position to demand a suitable transfer fee for one of their most prized assets. body check tags ::
