Inter Milan are reportedly considering the prospect of a swap deal with Arsenal involving Stefan de Vrij and Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Nerazzurri have seen all of their big-name defenders linked with moves away this summer, but Alessandro Bastoni's agent has affirmed that the Italian will stay at Inter.

Milan Skriniar's future is shrouded in uncertainty, though, as the Slovakia international continues to be linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea ahead of his contract expiry in 2023.

Meanwhile, De Vrij's deal with the 2020-21 Scudetto winners is also set to run out in 12 months' time, and the 30-year-old could be sold to help alleviate Inter's volatile financial situation.

Tottenham Hotspur have unsurprisingly been linked with a move for De Vrij, who was a regular in Antonio Conte's title-winning squad two seasons ago.

However, Spurs could be forced to battle North London rivals Arsenal for his signature, as Calciomercatoweb claims that the Gunners may be offered the chance to sign De Vrij.

The report claims that Inter could offer the Dutchman as part of a deal for Gabriel, who formed an effective partnership with Ben White throughout the 2021-22 Premier League season.

The 24-year-old scored five goals in 35 top-flight games to help Arsenal return to the Europa League and is believed to have been the subject of interest from Barcelona in recent months.

Gabriel remains under contract at Arsenal until 2025, though, and it would take some convincing for the centre-back to leave while he is settled in London.

Furthermore, Inter will likely be forced to stump up a cash sum as well as De Vrij to sign Gabriel, who is valued at €40m (£34.3m) by Mikel Arteta's side.

Gabriel will have greater competition for his spot in the Arsenal XI from William Saliba and possibly Lisandro Martinez next term, but he is understood to be happy at the club and in no rush to leave.

Inter seemingly have a contingency plan in place, though, as Torino centre-back Bremer is on the Nerazzurri's radar amid interest from Tottenham and Chelsea.

De Vrij left Lazio in 2018 to sign for Inter Milan on a free transfer, and the Netherlands international has gone on to register eight goals and seven assists in 164 matches for the Nerazzurri.

The former Feyenoord youth product scored one goal and set up another in 41 outings in all tournaments last season, winning the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in the process.

Inter are also working on deals to bolster their attack with the signings of Paulo Dybala and former striker Romelu Lukaku, who is thought to be edging closer to leaving Chelsea on loan. body check tags ::
