Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly not be signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni during the summer transfer window.
On the back of qualification for the Champions League, head coach Antonio Conte is keen to make some high-profile additions to his first-team squad.
The North London outfit have already wrapped up the signings of two players, Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster following Inter winger Ivan Perisic through the door on Wednesday.
However, Conte has more ambitious plans for other areas of the pitch, including further improving a defence which impressed during the closing weeks of the season.
Bastoni has seemingly being at the top of his shortlist, the 23-year-old having starred for Inter over the past two campaigns to establish himself as one of the most highly-regarded centre-backs in Europe.
Nevertheless, it appears that the Italy international will be remaining at San Siro after his agent held discussions with Inter officials on Wednesday.
The player's agent had previously suggested that Bastoni was ready to take an opportunity in the Premier League should it arise over the summer.
Furthermore, it was claimed that the player was open to signing for Spurs, despite his natural affection for Inter, a club that he has been contracted to since 2017.
However, Spurs and Conte must now switch their attention to other targets, many of which have already been linked with an wide array of other clubs.
Villarreal's Pau Torres could be back on Spurs' radar over the coming days, the Spaniard said to have a release clause which stands in the region of £55m.
At the end of last month, the 25-year-old hinted that he was in no rush to make a decision on his future, saying: "Right now there is nothing at all, there is talk of many things like every year.
"I have peace of mind of being where they want me, at the club of my life and I have this offer right now that I value as very positive. There is nothing right now, the only thing I have is the offer from Villarreal, so I am very calm."
In terms of outgoings, Spurs will almost certainly allow central defender Joe Rodon to find a new club with the Wales international failing to make any sort of an impression since Conte's arrival in November.
