Arsenal have made a second offer for AS Monaco winger Thomas Lemar after falling short with their initial £30m approach, according to a report.
The Gunners are desperate to land the 21-year-old after growing frustrated in their pursuit of Leicester City ace Riyad Mahrez, who they feel has been overvalued.
It emerged on Friday that Arsenal are still keen on Lemar despite their opening bid being knocked back, and Football.London reports that boss Arsene Wenger has now returned with a £40m proposal.
Monaco, who left Lemar out of their promotional kit launch this week, are said to be deliberating but will likely hold out for an even bigger sum.
The Ligue 1 champions have already lost Bernardo Silva to Manchester City during the summer transfer window and are reluctant to offload any more of their key players.
