Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith has insisted that the club must spend wisely this summer if they are to challenge for honours.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is reported to have around £90m at his disposal before the start of the new campaign to help the team win their first trophy since 2005.
"Arsenal have got money to spend and it would be silly not to spend it if they could spend it on the right people," Smith told Sky Sports News. "If they kept the same squad they have now, then they'd be treading water.
"Manager changes at [Manchester] United, [Manchester] City and Chelsea could be an advantage for Arsenal, who are a very stable club with one of the best managers around."
Arsenal have been linked with moves for Liverpool's Luis Suarez and Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuain in recent weeks.
