Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly contemplating a summer approach for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in Ligue 1, contributing 23 goals and 19 assists during his 127 appearances.

However, despite his status at the Groupama Stadium, Lyon are open to cashing in on the playmaker during the current transfer window.

According to le10Sport, Spurs are ready to rival long-term admirers Arsenal in the race for the Frenchman's signature.

The report suggests that both North London outfits are prepared to make an official approach with Aouar's asking price having dropped to lower than £45m.

French football's ongoing financial crisis and failure to qualify for next season's Champions League will force Lyon to consider any significant bids.
