Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has said that Houssem Aouar could "one day" turn out for the club.
The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from Lyon during this summer's transfer window, and Arsenal were thought to be at the head of the queue for the midfielder.
The Gunners are now unlikely to sign him ahead of Monday's deadline, but a recent report claimed that Madrid were lining up a late swoop for the former France Under-21 international.
Zidane has seemingly ruled out a move in this window but has hinted that he would be interested in bringing Aouar to the Bernabeu at some stage in the future.
"I don't know what information you have about [Aouar]," Zidane told reporters. "He's a great player, I have no doubt about that. Maybe one day he could play at Real Madrid but right now we have this squad and we're going to go forward with the players we have."
Aouar, who has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, scored nine times and contributed 10 assists in 41 appearances for Lyon during the 2019-20 campaign.
