Astana have earned a narrow 1-0 win at home to APOEL in the first leg of their Champions League qualifying playoff tie.
The Kazakhstani hosts almost took the lead with just four minutes on the clock, but Tanat Nuserbajev's close-range header was kept out by goalkeeper Boy Waterman.
However, Astana eventually made the breakthrough 10 minutes later when Baurzhan Dzholchiev met Foxi Kethevoama's cross before heading in.
Astana continued to force the issue, and they carved out another chance midway through the half as Dzholchiev's drive was saved by Waterman.
APOEL fought back during the second half, with Inaki Astiz dragging a shot off target before Luis Leal's drive flashed inches wide.
The home side nearly doubled their advantage nine minutes from time, only for Waterman to claw Kethevoama's shot away from the top corner.
Kethevoama had two further opportunities during the final stages as Astana pushed hard for a second goal, with Waterman denying him again before another effort went the wrong side of the post.
