Gabriel Agbonlahor puts Aston Villa before England call

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor admits that he would love to be considered for the next England squad after his fine form in recent weeks.

Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has admitted that he dreams of a return to the international fold but must put club before country.

Agbonlahor has scored six goals in his last seven games for Villa, including a match-winning brace in Saturday's 2-1 success at Norwich City.

The 26-year-old believes that England's selection policy has changed considerably since his last cap in 2009, but is ready and available for a call-up from Roy Hodgson.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "The way the England squad is now, it's different sort of call ups. He's got players in there even if they are not playing. The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, he'd not played much and then he gets a call-up.

"It's different to when Fabio Capello was here because he picked players on form. It's different in that team now. But it's the manager's choice and I have just got to concentrate on Villa. I have always said that. Club comes first, and if country comes then it comes.

"All that's on my mind now is playing for Villa and getting them safe. Playing for England is always a pleasure, but the main thing for me is playing for Villa and keeping fit because I've had a few knocks this season. I'm not really worrying about England at the moment."

The 26-year-old has 12 goals in all competitions for Paul Lambert's side so far this season.
