The Football Association has charged Aston Villa "with failing to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion" during the weekend's 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
The charge relates to the reaction of a number of Villa players to referee Lee Mason's decision to send off Gabriel Agbonlahor for a challenge with United full-back Ashley Young.
Villa have been given until 6pm on December 30 to respond to the governing body's decision.
The FA has also confirmed that it has rescinded the red card that Agbonlahor received.
