Aritz Aduriz scored an 86th-minute winner against Rayo Vallecano as Athletic Bilbao won at home in La Liga for the first time in six matches this evening.

Bilbao started the brighter, with Aduriz and Unai Lopez going close early on before Gael Kakuta sent a shot just wide at the other end.

The majority of the match went by with few clear goalscoring opportunities, but as it entered the final stages it was the hosts who looked more like nicking a winner.

Inaki Williams tested Rayo substitute goalkeeper Cristian Alvarez with 10 minutes on the clock before Aduriz broke the visitors' resolve in the 86th minute by pouncing on a loose ball and slamming home.

Athletic have now won two of their last 11 league games and move up to 12th in the table, climbing above Rayo in the process.
