Sam Allardyce has insisted that Diego Simeone would be considered "boring" were he to manage in the Premier League.
Last night, Atletico Madrid head coach Simeone masterminded a 1-0 victory over tournament favourites Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
It was a game that saw hosting Atletico surrender much of the possession to their opponents, but a well-organised defensive unit held firm at the Vicente Calderon.
Simeone's tactics have since been lauded, but Allardyce is of the belief that such an approach would not be looked upon favourably in England.
"Seeing Atletico Madrid last night, how they played and how they then defended what they had against a side that is one of the favourites to win the Champions League and is well ahead in the German league," the Sunderland boss told reporters.
"Now, everybody can say, 'Well, that's not entertaining', but everybody is eulogising Simeone's tactics now. I wouldn't think they would do that in the Premier League so much. 'He's boring this guy, he defends too much' - that's what he'd get here."
Atletico head to Munich for the second leg on Tuesday knowing that a win or a draw would book them a place in the final for the second time in the last three seasons.
