Atletico Madrid have revealed that key centre-back Diego Godin suffered ligament damage to his left ankle in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The 30-year-old is expected to undergo a scan on Thursday afternoon to determine the severity of the injury, but it is understood that the Uruguay international will miss this weekend's league match with Valencia.
"After a first exploration from the medical services of the club, Diego Godin suffers a sprain of the lateral ligament of his left ankle. Additional tests will be performed in the next hours and is pending evolution," read a statement on Atletico's official website.
The injury could also rule Godin out of Uruguay's 2018 World Cup qualification fixtures against Colombia and Venezuela during the next international break.
