Atletico Madrid book their spot in the last-16 stage of the Copa del Rey after recording a 4-1 victory over Segunda B outfit CD Guijuelo.

Atletico Madrid have booked their spot in the last-16 stage of the Copa del Rey after recording a 4-1 victory over CD Guijuelo at the Vicente Calderon on Tuesday night.

Atletico entered the second leg of the last-32 clash holding a 6-0 lead from the first leg last month and scored another four times against the Segunda B outfit to breeze into the next round.

The game's first half-chance arrived in the 14th minute when Lucas Hernandez found space inside the away side's box, but the defender's effort was always too high of Carlos Morales's crossbar.

Atletico made the breakthrough just three minutes later, however, with Nico Gaitan curling into the top corner after being afforded too much space inside the Guijuelo penalty box.

The home side had their second of the night in the 22nd minute when Angel Correa smashed home from close range after Gaitan had hit the crossbar with a looping header. Correa then turned provider for Atletico's third as the Argentine played a through-pass for Juanfran and the experienced Spaniard placed the ball into the top corner.

It went from bad to worse for Guijuelo as 10 minutes before the break, full-back Raul Ruiz was handed his second yellow card, leaving the visitors with 10 men against a dominant and overpowering Atletico outfit.

Atletico's fourth of the night arrived in the final minute of the first period when skipper Fernando Torres scooped the ball home from close range after some desperately poor defending gifted the striker a golden chance.

Guijuelo's leading scorer this season, Antonio Pino, was introduced at the break and the visitors had the chance to hit back in the 50th minute when Jorge Julia found space outside the Atletico box, but his effort was always too high.

Yannick Ferreira Carrasco and Kevin Gameiro joined fellow substitute Alessio Cerci on the field for the final 15 minutes of action, but clear opportunities were few and far between in the second period as the pace of the game dropped.

The away supporters had something to cheer 10 minutes from time when Pino headed into the back of the net, but the Segunda B side suffered a heavy 10-1 defeat on aggregate.

Real Madrid have already secured their passage into the next round, while holders Barcelona will look to join the Madrid duo when they welcome Hercules to Camp Nou in the second leg of their last-32 clash on Wednesday night.
