Atletico Madrid forward Luis Suarez has broken a goalscoring record previously set by Cristiano Ronaldo after his brace against Celta Vigo on Monday evening.
The former Barcelona man has not lost his goalscoring touch at the age of 34 and scored his third brace in four matches during Atletico's 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo earlier this week.
Suarez has now netted 16 goals in his first 17 La Liga matches with Atletico - surpassing Ronaldo's in the 2009-10 campaign of 15 in 17 with Real Madrid.
In doing so, the Uruguay international has become the first player in the 21st century to strike 16 times in his first 17 matches for a La Liga side, with his goals propelling Atletico to the top of the rankings.
Suarez also sits comfortably at the top of the goalscoring charts for the 2020-21 campaign having struck three more times than Barca's Lionel Messi and Sevilla's Youssef En-Nesyri.
Atletico now travel to Granada on Saturday afternoon, where Suarez will hope to find the back of the net for the fifth game running in the top flight.
