Atletico Madrid have slumped to a penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Segunda Division side Cadiz in their final pre-season match.
Last season's Champions League runners-up looked to be on course for victory courtesy of Yannick Ferreira Carrasco's early opener, but David Sanchez rescued penalties late on before Cadiz triumphed in the shootout.
It was the hosts who almost made the perfect start to the match, though, coming within inches of breaking the deadlock in the very first minute when Salvador Sanchez crashed an effort against the post.
Atletico were ahead after just 13 minutes, though, as Cadiz failed to adequately clear their lines, allowing Carrasco to open the scoring.
Rafael Borre was the next to come close for the visitors, but chances were at a premium throughout the first half and the two teams went into the break all square.
Carrasco was the first to threaten in the second half when he let fly from range shortly after the hour mark, but Alberto Cifuentes was equal to the goalscorer's effort.
Cadiz struggled to conjure up many clear chances, but they almost levelled things up with just over 15 minutes remaining when Bernabe Barragan pulled off a fine save to keep his side ahead.
There was nothing the keeper could do when the equaliser eventually came, though, with Sanchez converting from the spot in the final minute of normal time.
That forced the match to penalties, and Cadiz continued their form from the spot to win the shootout 3-2 and pick up a surprise victory against their more illustrious opponents.
