Atletico Madrid have moved four points clear at the top of La Liga courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Las Palmas at the Estadio de Gran Canaria this evening.
Antoine Griezmann followed up a Filipe Luis strike with a second-half brace to seal the win for the capital outfit, handing them their ninth victory in their last 10 league games and their eighth clean sheet in that run too.
It was actually the home side who threatened first as they looked to continue their five-match unbeaten streak in all competitions, with Jan Oblak needing to keep out an effort from Dominguez Tanausu.
However, the opener came five minutes later as Juanfran's ball across the edge of the area made it all the way through to Luis, who fired a shot back across goal and into the far corner.
Las Palmas struggled to come up with anything substantial in reply, and it wasn't until 10 minutes into the second half that either side created another clear-cut goalscoring opportunity.
It fell the way of Diego Simeone's men when Griezmann was found unmarked inside the box, but Javi Varas pulled off a magnificent stop to deny the French striker.
That would merely delay the inevitable, however, and moments after Roque Mesa had sent a shot narrowly wide Griezmann went straight up the other end to double his side's advantage, being played clean through on goal and coolly slotting the finish past the keeper.
Yannick Ferreira Carrasco had the chance to well and truly put the game to bed with a little over 10 minutes remaining when he was also played through one on one with the keeper, but this time Varas was equal to the test.
The third would eventually arrive with just a minute remaining, however, as Griezmann made it 11 goals in his last 11 games by latching on to Koke's pass and firing an effort home to cap off the victory.
