Antoine Griezmann scored a brace as Atletico Madrid climbed up to second in La Liga with a 2-0 victory over Getafe.
The hosts needed less than four minutes to open the scoring as Gabi lifted the ball into the box to find Griezmann, who took advantage of Getafe's failure to leave him in an offside position by firing home.
A comfortable evening for Atletico appeared likely after such a promising start, but Getafe responded well to the setback of conceding an early goal.
Diego Simeone's side, however, would continue to look threatening in possession as they looked to find the likes of Griezmann and Fernando Torres on a regular basis.
Getafe finished the first half the stronger of the two sides, though, with Stefan Scepovic heading into the side-netting before a defensive error handed another chance to the Serbian forward, who struck an effort straight at Jan Oblak.
The visitors continued to grow in confidence at both ends of the pitch early in the second half as Atletico often struggled to make the right decision in attacking areas.
An opportunity arrived for Getafe when Victor Rodriguez played Pedro Leon through on goal, but the captain could only send his low shot wide of the post as the Atletico defence breathed a sigh of relief.
It proved to be a vital moment in the match as Atletico took charge once again, with Jackson Martinez heading just wide of the post from Gabi's inviting cross.
Griezmann had the final say in the 90th minute as he found the space to tap in from close range after Martinez had squared the ball for his teammate.
