How France could line up against Austria

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how France could line up for Friday's UEFA Nations League clash with Austria.

France forward Kylian Mbappe could be in contention to feature against Austria for their UEFA Nations League encounter in Leopoldstadt on Friday night.

The Paris Saint-Germain star was taken off at half time with a minor knee injury in the 2-1 defeat against Denmark last week and was then named as an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw with Croatia on Monday as a precaution.

However, Mbappe is expected to be fit to face Austria and his potential inclusion could be one of several changes made to Didier Deschamps's starting lineup.

Deschamps used a back four against Croatia, but he could revert to a 3-4-1-2 formation on Friday, which may see Ibrahima Konate – who has replaced the injured Raphael Varane in France's 24-man squad – make his international debut at centre-back, although Presnel Kimpembe, Jules Kounde and Lucas Hernandez are the most likely trio to start the match.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is expected to replace Mike Maignan between the sticks, while Kingsley Coman, Benjamin Pavard and Jonathan Clauss will all be competing for a place at right wing-back.

N'Golo Kante was given a rest on Monday, but the Chelsea man could return to the first XI at the expense of Real Madrid target Aurelien Tchouameni, who has started the last two matches. Adrien Rabiot, who scored against Croatia last time out, Matteo Guendouzi and Boubacar Kamara are three other centre-midfield options who will be hoping to start.

In attack, Mbappe, Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann could all return to the starting lineup, which would likely see Wissam Ben Yedder, Christopher Nkunku and Moussa Diaby drop to the substitutes' bench.

France possible starting lineup: Lloris; Kounde, Kimpembe, L. Hernandez; Clauss, Kante, Guendouzi, T. Hernandez; Griezmann; Benzema, Mbappe body check tags ::
